In light of the policy of development and improvement adopted by the General Secretariat of the Planning Council, which is in conformity with the international trends and recommendations, the first phase of implementing the United Nations System of National Accounts (SNA93), has been completed.
The 2001 data has been selected to start implementing the system. Several phases were identified for the compilation of the accounts.
It was agreed that phase one is to cover compilation of the current accounts in addition to the capital account of the accumulation accounts.
The main factor behind this choice was data availability.
The bulletin of national accounts presents a series of accounts and tables covering the years 2001-2005.
The current accounts embody two sets of accounts, firstly production accounts, and secondly generation of income accounts and its uses, in addition to the compilation of the capital account which falls among accumulation accounts.
Identification of institutional sectors has been completed as well as compilation of the accounts for each sector separately, except non-profit institutions serving households which was combined with the households sector.
